Graduate student to give talk on Batman, emergency management

SHARE

The Departments of Emergency Management and English are scheduled to co-sponsor a talk by English graduate student Mike Bittner, who is set to present “Batman: Gotham City’s Emergency Manager” on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union Century Theater.

Bittner’s talk will focus on the interdisciplinary analysis of DC Comics and core emergency management principles. Bittner will concentrate on the “No Man’s Land” storyline where an earthquake levels much of Gotham City and the subsequent actions by Batman. The presentation will analyze how the story moves through each of the four phases of emergency management: preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery. The goal is to provide a comprehensive examination of how fictional narratives can be used to illustrate the phases.

All are welcome to attend.
