Plant sciences assistant professor receives award

Senay Simsek, assistant professor in plant sciences, received the NC-213 Andersons Cereal and Oil Seeds 2011 Early-in Career Award of Excellence during the Multi-state Project NC-212 annual meeting (NC-213 – The U.S. Quality Grains Research Consortium).  The award recognizes “individuals early in their careers whose work has significantly contributed to improvements in science, innovation, technology implementation, policy formation and/or education related to quality of cereals and oilseeds from processing to consumption and who show outstanding promise of continuing those contributions into the future.”

Simsek is responsible for directing hard spring wheat quality and carbohydrate chemistry related research activities.

NC-213 includes engineers, scientists and economists from leading U.S. land grant universities and government research centers that investigate and disseminate technical knowledge concerning the marketing and delivery of quality grains and bioprocess co-products.
