Gene Taylor, NDSU athletic director, is serving as the honorary chair for the 2011 North Dakota Association of the Blind’s “Walk for Vision.”
The walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 30. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., with the walk starting at 9:30 a.m. The event will be held at the NDSU Bison Sports Arena.
There are approximately 3,700 North Dakotans who are “legally” blind and another 9,300 who are visually impaired. Even though people may be affected by diminished or no eyesight, the Association of the Blind proclaims “life will go on after the Big E.” The statement implies that even though one’s eyesight has deteriorated to the point they are unable to see the big “E” on the eye chart, there is much that can be accomplished if there is motivation to take on the challenges blindness has imposed on a person’s life.
Proceeds from the walk are used to support the costs of service programs offered by the North Dakota Association of the Blind.
Area Lions clubs, service clubs, eye care providers, business and corporate entities help to sponsor the Vision Walk. The East Cass Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has committed supplemental funds and is again sponsoring this year's walk.
