Four graduate students in NDSU’s history program participated in the 56th annual Student History Conference hosted by the University of South Dakota on Feb. 25. The event was held online due to COVID concerns
Master’s degree student Oliver West Sime presented the paper, “Fire-City Hall: Community and Continuity in Ashley’s Fire Hall.” The local study lays the groundwork for the nomination of the Ashley, North Dakota, historic fire hall to the National Register of Historic Places.
Master’s degree student Jacob Morris presented the paper, “Writing Our Own Moral Code: William Seeger and the Men of Brackett’s Battalion Seek Justice in the 1864 Dakota War Campaign.” The study is part of an ongoing line of research at NDSU on the Dakota War of the 1860s.
Doctoral candidates Aaron Barth and Carole Butcher participated as commentators on sessions of papers.
The conference is the annual district meeting of Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society of historians.
