Doctoral candidate receives Young Scientist Award

Cereal science doctoral candidate Ana Magallanes López received the Young Scientist Award for Best Poster Presentation during the 16th International Association for Cereal Science and Technology International Cereals and Bread Congress online meeting.

She presented her poster, “Solvent Retention Capacity: Supplemental Solvents for Evaluation of Gluten Quality,” during the closing ceremony.

The recognition is intended to promote and encourage scientific work in the discipline of cereal science. Finalists were selected based on originality, scientific merit and expected research outcomes for the food industry, as well as the quality of presentation. The award was sponsored by the Journal of Cereal Science, the official journal of the ICC.

Magallanes López is advised by Senay Simsek, Bert L. D'Appolonia Cereal Science and Technology of Wheat Endowed Professor and wheat quality project leader.

The International Cereal and Bread Congress takes place every four years and involves cereal scientists, technologists, millers, bakers and suppliers from around the globe.
