The next Human Progress and Flourishing Workshop is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1, at noon in Beckwith Recital Hall. Colleen Haight is set to present “The Prophet Function: Lessons from Delphi.”
All members of the NDSU community and the public are invited to attend the free event. After the presentation, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served in the Challey School of Music Atrium.
Haight is a professor of economics and associate chair of the economics department at San Jose State University. Previously, she has served as chair of the economics department, chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and associate dean for undergraduate education. Her research focuses on exploration of the business regulatory environment and the economics of religion.
In her presentation, Haight is set to discuss the relationship between religion and politics as seen through the lens of economic theory. Using an example from ancient Greece, she will explain how relationships between the state and religion impacted economic choices and why it is relevant today.
Prior to joining the academic world, Haight worked in software development and the airline industry. She earned her doctorate in economics from George Mason University and an Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Notre Dame de Namur University.
The Human Progress and Flourishing Workshop is hosted by the Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth. Internationally-renowned scholars from universities across the country to are invited to present their research and engage with the NDSU community.
