Kelly Sassi, assistant professor of English and English education, will speak at the National Council of Teachers of English Annual Convention held Nov. 17-22 in Chicago.
Sassi will present during the panel session, "Common Core Standards and the Dilemma of Writing District-Wide Curriculum.” According to the convention program, the session draws on one year of curriculum work by an English Language Arts Committee comprised of a dozen six-12th grade English teachers as they analyze the affordances and limitations of adopting the common core standards.
The session is scheduled on Friday, Nov. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Each year, the convention draws thousands of K-12 teachers, college faculty, administrators and other educational professionals from around the world. They gather to hear award-winning speakers, attend idea-packed sessions, share best practices, participate in workshops and test the latest teaching materials.
