NDSU is set to offer three new graduate programs, including a doctorate in applied economics, Master of Public Policy and graduate certificate in computer science education. The new programs were approved by the State Board of Higher Education.
The applied economics doctorate and the MPP programs are accepting applications and will start in fall 2022. The computer science education certificate also is accepting applications and will start in summer 2022.
“The programs are housed in three colleges and will serve populations in North Dakota and outside the region. Each fills an important need,” said Neely Benton, director of graduate recruitment and admissions. “All students enrolled in online graduate programs at NDSU pay the in-state tuition rate.”
Applied economics doctorate
Faculty in NDSU’s applied economics program focus on a variety of research areas, including risk analysis, big data and computational economics, economic well-being and agricultural policy. The outcomes-based doctoral program leverages the strengths of the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics in applied risk analysis and institutions while maintaining flexibility to provide for a number of student specializations.
Program graduates are qualified to work in academia, Extension, industry or governmental agencies such as USDA and the Economic Research Service.
Master of Public Policy degree
Students who earn Master of Public Policy degrees work in government agencies, non-profits, think tanks, political advocacy organizations and the private sector. NDSU’s program accommodates both traditional students and people who have begun their careers. Students in the MPP program may attend classes in-person or remotely in real time. The accelerated master’s degree option allows NDSU undergraduate students to complete both their political science major and Master of Public Policy in five years.
NDSU offers the only Master of Public Policy program in the Dakotas and is one of the most cost-effective options in the nation for earning the degree.
Computer science education graduate certificate
The graduate certificate is an excellent option for high school teachers who want to enhance their computer science teaching skills and knowledge. The 18-credit certificate is offered fully online. Students can earn up to nine credits over the summer and enroll in electives during the academic year. Students can access course lectures and materials on their own time.
