Surya S.C. Congress, assistant professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering, is set to present research during the UAS Expo 2022 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
His presentation, “Civil Infrastructure Asset Management using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based Photogrammetric Techniques,” is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m.
Congress is an FAA-certified drone pilot and has flown many unmanned aerial missions to collect data on the condition of infrastructure. His research interests include sustainable and resilient infrastructure design, ground improvement techniques and smart city concepts that use sensors and monitoring technologies.
He earned his bachelor’s degree at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India; master’s degree in civil engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, West Bengal, India; and doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Congress has presented several invited lectures, including Transportation Research Board, UAV Commercial Expo, DJI Airworks and the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering’s Bright Spark keynote lecture at Cairo, Egypt.
