“Beethoven ‘N’ Pierrot,” a play written by Pavel Dobrusky, theatre arts assistant professor, is discussed at length in “Beethoven in America,” a book recently released by author Michael Broyles.

Broyles’ book seeks to understand Beethoven as he exists as a cultural icon in America. He discusses Beethoven’s portrayal in popular music, movies, theatre, religion and science. Dobrusky’s play, which premiered in Denver in 1995, is discussed in the chapter titled “Beethoven and Theatre.”

“Beethoven ‘N’ Pierrot” consists of 50 short stories that feature the thoughts Beethoven experienced in his last two hours of life. The stories range from the absurd to poignant and include characters both real and imaginary in the life of the composer.
