FORWARD sets grant information session and announces awards

The FORWARD project has scheduled a grant information session on Friday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Memorial Union Lark room. The session will feature information about a number of FORWARD grant opportunities. For the current academic year, application due dates for these grants are as follows:

  • Course release grants – due Nov. 2
  • Mentor relationship travel grants – due Jan. 11, 2013
  • Leadership development grants – due Feb. 8, 2013
  • Climate and gender equity research grants – due March 28, 2013
  • Leap research and lab renovation grants – due April 26, 2013

Request for applications will be posted on the FORWARD website at www.ndsu.edu/forward on or before Oct. 12. Additional information about each opportunity also is available on the website. Inquiries may be directed to Canan Bilen-Green at canan.bilen.green@ndsu.edu or 231‐7040.

The FORWARD project also awarded recently several Leap research and Leap lab renovation grants. Five Leap research grants were awarded to Julia Bowsher, assistant professor of biological sciences; Simone Ludwig, associate professor of computer science; Erika Offerdahl, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry; Katie Reindl, assistant professor of biological sciences; and Sangita Sinha, assistant professor of chemistry and molecular biology. One Leap lab renovation grant was awarded to Erin Gillam, assistant professor of biological sciences, and Wendy Reed, associate professor of biological sciences.

Grant applications were reviewed by external reviewers from other universities. More than 20 applications were received for this round of the Leap program. The Leap research grants were funded with Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) money provided through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Creative Activities and Technology Transfer.
