The NDSU Graduate School has announced the results from the Graduate Student Association’s fourth annual Research and Arts Forum April 11. A total of 43 NDSU graduate students showcased their research, teaching, outreach and creative projects.
More than 150 visitors cast votes for their favorite poster, and cash awards were presented to the top three presenters.
Soil science graduate student Lakesh Sharma took first place for “Performance Of Two Commercially Available Ground Based Active Optical Sensors, Greenseeker And Holland Scientific Crop Circle Sensor Acs 470, For Their Ability To Estimate Corn (Zea Mays, L.) Yield Over Two Years.”
Second place honors went to Zhengping Zhou, a graduate student studying materials and nanotechnology, and academic adviser Xiang-Fa Wu, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, for “Synthesis Of Advanced Multifunctional Carbon Nanofibers With Superior Electrochemical Properties.”
There was a tie for third place. Buddhadev Layek, a graduate student in pharmaceutical sciences, and academic adviser Jagdish Singh, professor and chair of pharmaceutical sciences, were recognized for “Synergistic Effect Of Conjugating Cell Penetrating Peptide And Linoleic Acid On Gene Transfection Efficiency Of Chitosan,” while Courage Mudzongo, a doctoral student in the developmental science program, was honored for “Determinants Of Child Labor In Malawi And Tanzania.”
The presentations featured projects in a variety of fields, including animal sciences, civil engineering, computer science, communication, counselor education, developmental science, environmental and conservation sciences, health, nutrition and exercise science, human development and family science, microbiology, pharmaceutical sciences, physics, plant pathology, psychology and public health.
