‘BIG Event’ brings students together to serve community

SHARE

More than 600 NDSU students are volunteering in Fargo and Moorhead today as a way to thank the community for its support. As part of the organized effort, named the BIG Event, students will be working in shifts at various non-profit organizations, individuals’ homes and Sandbag Central throughout the day.

The BIG Event was first established at Texas A&M University in 1982. It has since become the largest single-day, student-organized service event in the country.

Volunteer check in for the NDSU BIG Event is in the Memorial Union Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fargo City Commissioner Melissa Sobolik will be speaking at noon before the students go to Sandbag Central. She was elected to the commission in June 2012.

Katlyn Worral and Jordyn Geisenhof are co-chairs for the event. NDSU Alumni Association, Student Government and the Volunteer Network are sponsors. For more information, visit www.ndsubigevent.com

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
