Mark Sheridan, Jordan Engberg Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, is scheduled to participate in the 17th International Congress of Comparative Endocrinology to be held in Barcelona, Spain, on July 15-19. He will deliver a lecture titled “Modulating the metabolic actions of growth hormone” and serve as a panelist on a workshop on G-protein coupled receptors, one of the largest families of receptors to which hormones bind. He also is a co-organizer of a symposium titled “Recent insight in growth regulation” with eight participants. A proceeding of the symposium will be published in General and Comparative Endocrinology.

The congress is held every four years and attracts scientists from around the world to discuss recent advances in the structure, evolution, function and mechanism action of hormones. Topics for this year’s meeting include appetite and energy balance, behavior and biological rhythms, reproduction, endocrine disruptors, environmental regulation of endocrine activity, evolution and development, functional genomics and proteomics, growth and metabolism, metamorphosis, tools in comparative endocrinology, and water and mineral regulation.
