Steve Kennedy, the longtime coach at Fargo South and Fargo Davies high schools, has been named head men’s golf coach at NDSU.

Kennedy led the Bruins boys golf team to 12 state championships during 18 years as head coach. South won seven straight North Dakota Class A championships before Kennedy left to become the first head coach at Fargo Davies in 2011.

Kennedy has been an instructor of physics at NDSU since 2009.

“Steve emerged from a very impressive list of candidates to be our choice,” said NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor. “Steve brings a great deal of respect and recognition in our region amongst many in golf. He has had the opportunity to coach some extremely talented golfers over his career, including some of our current players. It is great to have a former Bison lead our program.”

Kennedy was a five-time North Dakota Coach of the Year and was named National Coach of the Year in 1998. He coached nine state medalists and 21 future Division I players.

Kennedy earned a bachelor’s degree in composite science at NDSU in 1984. He earned a master’s in secondary education from Tri-College University in 1993.
