History

The pink and white lady slipper was adopted as the state flower of Minnesota in 1902. This rare wildflower has been protected by the state since 1925, it is illegal to pick, unearth, or uproot these beautiful flowers. Lady slippers can be found in bogs, swamps, and damp woods where there is plenty of light.  They are very slow growing, taking up to about 16 years to produce their first flowers, and they can live for up to around 50 years.
