Tile Drain
The NDSU tile drainage research investigates the yield response of major crops grown under tiled and non-tiled conditions. In addition to measuring yield, crop plants are evaluated for disease and other growth characteristics. Soil and plant scientists monitor the water table, water quality, soil properties and temperatures at tiled and non-tiled experimental sites. The primary site is located at the northwest edge of Fargo, ND. Electronic sensors monitor soil moisture 6” below the surface, and temperature 2” below the surface in both tiled and non-tiled plots. The data is transferred to this site using cellular communication and updated four times daily. A secondary commercial field site is located at West Fargo, ND.
