A Key to the superfamilies of the Lepidoptera
with special reference to North and South Dakota


 

6b (6a).  Tympanum absent, ocelli large, maxillary palpi minute and not visible above
labial palpi. Hindwing with Sc+R and Rs veins arising separately from discal cell.  
Superfamily Choreutoidea*
   

 

 

The family Choreutidae includes about 402 species in two subfamilies world-wide.  In North America there are 32 species in 9 genera.

known from North Dakota.

 

6b'  Maxillary palpi visible above labial palpi, Hindwing with Sc+R and Rs forming a 'Y' beyond discal cell.  Tympanum present at base of abdomen.  Superfamily Pyraloidea.
