Identification key to the Noctuinae occurring in the Dakotas

 

D4.  (D1)  Ptagiae crossed by a transverse black line, thoracic vestiture of broad scales.
        Fw groundcolor black and dark brown with paler markings. 
        Actebia fennica (Tauscher).  

 

         

D4.' Ptagiae crossed by a transverse black line, thoracic vestiture of hair-like scales.
        Fw groundcolor gray with darker and paler markings.  Actebia balanitis (Grote). 

 

D4." Ptagiae without black line, thoracic vestiture of hair-like scales.  Fw groundcolor
        pale brown, ordinary spots often darker.  Dichagyris variabilis (Grote).
