Identification key to the Notodontidae occurring in the Dakotas

 

4A1.  (4A)   Forewing with proximal margin of median dark fascia irregular in course.  The dark area
        with scattered metallic blue scales, transverse lines at veins marked by patches of yellow scales.

4A1.'  Forewing with proximal margin of median dark fascia straight or evenly arched.  The dark area
        with scattered metallic blue scales, transverse lines at veins marked by patches of yellow scales. 
        Furcula scolopendrina (Boisduval).

              

 

4A1.'  Forewing with median dark fascia variable, sometimes split into anterior and posterior elements,
        without metallic blue scales and few yellow scales.  Furcula modesta (Hudson).*
