Identification key to the Notodontidae occurring in the Dakotas

 

4A.  (4)   Head and ptagia whitish-yellowish, thoracic disc and tegulae black.   (Go to 4A1).

 

4A.'  Head and thorax not strongly contrasting.  (Go to 4A2)

 

Note: Furcula species are very prone to becoming 'grease covered' and appear
artificially dark, obscuring the contrast between the head/ ptagiae and thoracic disc.
