Bone Formation
Bone is formed by two main mechanisms:
Endochondral bone formation starts with a
cartilage model of the finished bone and gradually replaces it
with bone. The bone begins developing in "growth centers." Most of
the bones in the body develop by this method.
Intramembranous bone formation only occurs in certain
skull bones. Bone forms in the fibrous membranes that cover the
fetal brain.
