Bone
Bone consists of a few cells (osteocytes)
embedded in a matrix which becomes mineralized (ossified). It is the
second hardest substance in the body (after the enamel of the teeth)
and, despite its hard dead appearance, is a living tissue with an
excellent healing ability after injury.
