What to expect at a CREC Field Day

Everyone is welcome at the Carrington REC Field Day, Tuesday, July 16. Everyone includes…everyone. Farmers, ranchers, crop consultants, neighbors, business people, family member of staff, Bison fans, anyone curious about agriculture.

What should you expect to experience at a Carrington REC Field Day? We’re glad you asked!

Plenty of people – but not necessarily crowds. We split into five groups for four concurrent tours in the morning. Our agronomy tour is often so popular that we divide the crowd in half and run the same route from opposite directions. Anywhere from 25-60 people attend any given tour, so you’ll have plenty of access to experts. Ask us anything! Along with the conventional agronomy tour(s), we have a rolling tour of our livestock and working facilities, a walking (if you want) tour of our orchard, and stops near our organic plots to talk about organic practices including equipment, weed control, and harvest techniques. At last count, we have 25 experts scheduled to share NDSU research. In the afternoon, learn about crops that are new to North Dakota, including kernza, lupins, pennycress, and sorghum.

Plenty of transportation. You can get a ride to wherever you want to be (on our grounds, of course). Along with our fleet of trailers and tour wagons, we have shuttle drivers ready to bring late-arriving guests to meet our tours already enroute, or to escort someone back to the yard.

Plenty of food and water. We’ll have coffee and donuts in the morning, and a picnic lunch at noon. All of our tours will have bottled water available.

Plenty of parking and shade. Our picnic grounds are nestled in trees and we have a large party tent for additional shade.

Plenty of friends and family. We consider you our friends, and we do encourage our staff to bring their families to see what we’ve been working on. Children are welcome. We have steps and handrails to make certain everyone is safe getting on and off the trailers.

Plenty of help. Ask for anything that will make your visit more comfortable or more educational. Our staff will be wearing matching shirts so we’ll be easy to find!

New this year: plenty of swag. Really! The NDSU Foundation and NDSU University Relations have shipped a case of goodies for you to take home as a memento of your visit. Need a Bison yard sign, flag, cap, or coozie? We gotcha covered.

A Bison Athletics yard sign is posted in grass, with a Bison cap and can coozies on the ground in front of the sign.

Bison swag will be available at this year's Field Day.

In the Midwest, whenever we gather for a large event, the question comes up, “What can I bring?” and our answer is simple: bring your friends and family, and maybe a hat if that’s your style. Sunscreen or long sleeves is always a good idea. Bring your questions, and ask if something comes to mind. We love to talk about what we do, and this is our opportunity to showcase North Dakota agriculture.

Please come to our 65th Annual CREC Field Day – we’re expecting YOU!
