Extension Parent and Family Education Webinar - Parenting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma
Brain function and brain development, particularly how early experiences disproportionately affect this development, is instrumental in understanding children. In looking at the brain, from the bottom to the top, and the inside out we can better determine what types of interventions may be helpful. Our first connections or disconnections set the stage for all future relationships. Sometimes the very interventions which are the most needed will cause the most distress in our clients - close relationships. This experiential, multi-sensory training will provide takeaway information which will be helpful in every area of your life - personal as well as professional. The presentation draws heavily from the work of Dr. Bruce Perry and his Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), as well as the work Dr. Karyn Purvis of the Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University and Brendtro & du Toit. Case examples will be used. Traditional types of interventions will be discussed including their limitations and possibilities.
Webinar is available for CEUs for ND Social Workers, Counselors, and Occupational Therapists.
