Positive Indian Parenting
Developed by the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA), this curriculum explores the values and attitudes supporting traditional Indian child-rearing practices and applies them to modern caregiving.
The curriculum promotes the strengths of traditional Indian practices using storytelling, harmony, lessons of nature, behavior management, and the use of praise. It addresses the historic impact of boarding schools, intergenerational trauma and grief, and forced assimilation to enhance understanding in caring for children growing out of these family experiences.
