Description

Small to medium-sized tree native to eastern North America, as far west as northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Canopy is uprightoval, changing to rounded form. Has excellent landscape value with white flower clusters in spring followed by red fruit from summer into late fall.

Preferences

Light: Full sun.
Water: Medium water needs.
Soil: Prefers well drained loam soils, does not tolerate salinity.

Comments

Showy mountain-ash does poorly in areas with hot, humid summers.

It is susceptible to fire-blight and canker diseases.

Its species name comes from the Latin word decorates meaning decorative or showy in reference to the appearance of the fruit.
