Description

A medium shrub resulting from a cross between Reeves spirea (Spiraea cantoniensis) and threelobe spirea (S. trilobata) from China, originating before 1866. Vanhoutte spirea is widely planted, but the parent (S. trilobata) appears superior in quality.

Preferences

Light: Full sun to partial shade. 

Water: Moderately drought tolerant. 

Soil: Adaptable to a variety of soils. Tolerates moderately high pH.

Comments

Also known as bridalwreath spirea for its white flowers and gracefully arching branches. Forms a beautiful fountain-like or vase shaped mound. 

Prune as needed after it blooms in the spring.
