Value-Added Wool Webinar

NDSU Extension and UMN Extension will be presenting to producers and wool/fiber enthusiasts.

“Wool value for Midwest producers has been stagnant for production of fine and medium wools,” says Travis Hoffman, sheep specialist for NDSU Extension and UMN Extension. “Opportunities exist to create value from their 2024 wool clip with working with processors and artisan wool marketing.”

The wool loan deficiency payment for ungraded wool is $0.40/lb. through your local FSA office. Finer fibers are worth only $1 to $2/lb., yet a majority of Midwest fleeces are worth a minimal return and is frustrating to producers able to capitalize on their year’s wool production.

“We are working with the fiber industry to connect sheep producers with wool processors,” says Sabrina Florentino, UMN Alternative Livestock Systems Extension Educator. “We can build a network of wool producers that can match with our demand for wool and wool products that capitalize on value through the supply chain.”
