Description

A hardy, medium-to-tall, suckering shrub, native to prairie hillsides and woody draws. The juneberry is also known as a Saskatoon or a serviceberry. Fruits are highly prized for food. Selected cultivars are used in commercial production.

Preferences

Light: Full sun to part shade. 
Water: Need adequate moisture for fruit. 
Soil: Prefers loam to sandy soils.

Comments

Berries may be eaten off the plant or made into pie, jams and jellies. 

'Regent'- A compact, early flowering variety that often only reaches 4-6'. 

‘Honeywood’- A traditional flavored fruit with a longer ripening period. 

‘JB30’- A sweeter variety with more juice and mild flavor. 

‘Martin’- A sweeter variety compared to Honeywood with more juice. 

‘Smoky’- Traditional flavor but most difficult to get to ripen of those tested at NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center (REC). 

‘Thiessen’- The sweetest variety tested at Carrington REC.
