Nezara Amyot &
Serville,
1843
Nezara Amyot & Serville, 1843: XXVI, 143-144.
Rhaphigaster (Nezara):
Dallas, 1851: 274.
Pentatoma (Nezara)
Gorski, 1852: 103.
Type species: Lioderma:
Cimex smaragdulus Fabricius, 1775 (= Cimex viridulus Linnaeus,
1758), by subsequent designation (Distant, 1902).
Distant (1902) designated Cimex viridulus Linnaeus, 1758, as type of
Nezara. Unfortunately, C. viridulus was not an original member of the
genus, but it is a senior synonym to Cimex smaragdulus Fabricius, 1775,
which was an original member of Nezara. Distant did treat Nezara
viridula, and listed smaragdulus as a synonym, so article 69.2.2 of
the Code of Zoological Nomenclature applies, and Distant’s designation should be
considered valid.
