The NDSU Office of Multicultural Programs has scheduled several National Hispanic Heritage Month events from Friday, Sept. 15 through Wednesday, Oct. 11 at locations across campus.
Also known as Latino Heritage Month, the national celebration highlights the histories, cultures and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The official dates celebration dates of Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 each year are reflective of the anniversaries and celebrations of the independence of many Latin American countries. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all declared independence on September 15, in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21, respectively.
