The NDSU Marksmanship Club hosted the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championship Matches on February 22-23 at the Red River Range in West Fargo, North Dakota.
Over 50 shooters representing the University of Akron, University of Michigan, Michigan Technological University, North Dakota State University, University of North Dakota and University of South Carolina-Union competed in the matches.
The NDSU teams consisting of Alex Chinander, a sophomore in ag business from Cornell, Wisconsin; Garrett Langerud, a senior in microbiological sciences from Bismarck, North Dakota; Clay Sell, a sophomore in natural resource management from Winner, South Dakota; Jacob Vaagen, a senior in civil engineering from Devils Lake, North Dakota and Michele Weigel, a sophomore in animal science from Bismarck, North Dakota took third place in both the air rifle and smallbore (.22) rifle competition. The University of Akron and the University of Michigan took the first two places in the Matches.
In individual honors, Langerud was named to the All-Conference Second Team in both Air and Smallbore Rifle, while Vaagen was named to the All-Conference Second Team in Smallbore Rifle. Langerud was also named most improved shooter for the 2024-2025 season.
The teams are coached by Mitchell Godbout from Casselton, North Dakota, as well as Dakotah Faught and Amanda Hintz, both of Fargo. The NDSU Marksmanship Club practices at the Red River Range in West Fargo.
