NDSU's English Graduate Organization is set to host the Red River Graduate Student Conference, "The Field in Motion: Past, Present and Future of English Studies," scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, in the Memorial Union. It is the 12th time the event has been held on the NDSU campus.
The conference is expected to attract students from NDSU, University of Minnesota, Iowa State University, University of Minnesota-Duluth, South Dakota State University, St. Cloud State University, St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and Minnesota State University Moorhead.
"This year, we have 40 graduate and undergraduate presenters from eight different schools in the region coming to present their papers," explained Kaylee Jangula Mootz, conference co-chair. "Our hope is that this conference offers students a chance to network with other students and scholars from our area, as well as a place to share our research and learn from one another."
The Friday evening keynote speaker is set to be Erin Mae Clark, assistant professor of American literature at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. Clark's talk, " 'Fine Clothes to the Jew': Langston Hughes and the Holocaust," is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
The scheduled Saturday keynote speaker is Amy Devitt, professor of rhetoric and composition at the University of Kansas. She is set to give her address, "Be(com)ing a Genre-Aware Teacher," during the conference's luncheon at 12:30 p.m.
The conference also will feature 13 breakout sessions, with topics ranging from "Economics and Cultural Studies" to "Cultural Moments Here and Abroad" to "Genders and Sexualities."
