Student journalists earn communications honors

Four NDSU students earned recognition in the 2015 North Dakota Professional Communicators College Communications Contest at a special awards luncheon on May 5. More than 60 college students and teams from five North Dakota and Minnesota colleges participated in the annual competition.

  • Sam Herder earned third place for feature story, first place for personal column and first place for sports writing.
  • Stephen Anderson earned honorable mention for feature story, first place for reviews and first place for single commercial.
  • Anthony Smith earned second place in special programming.
  • Jody Wendt earned first place in web page design.

Communications professionals in each field judged entries from student journalists, editors, broadcasters, photographers, designers and writers. A total of 62 awards were presented in 26 categories.

The contest is open to any student enrolled in at least a two-year college or university in North Dakota or Moorhead, Minnesota. Judges, selected for their professional expertise in each field, critique entries and provide students with feedback.

Participating institutions included NDSU, University of North Dakota, Minot State University, University of Jamestown and Minnesota State University Moorhead, Moorhead.
