NDSU distance runner Maddie Van Beek has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 team in Division I women’s track and field and cross country for the second year in a row, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced May 22.
Van Beek, from Perham, Minnesota, earned Academic All-District honors and second-team Capital One Academic All-America recognition in 2014. She advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting again this year.
Van Beek graduated with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average with a double major in English and English education. She also was named the Summit League Championships Track MVP at both the indoor and outdoor championships this season as the top point scorer in the running events.
She qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 3,000m steeplechase and will compete in Austin, Texas, on May 29 for a spot at the NCAA Championships in Oregon in June.
Van Beek was a commencement speaker at NDSU's winter 2014 ceremony.
