The NDSU student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists is organizing the Collegiate Convention for Interdisciplinary Advancements in Biomedical Sciences, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, in the Memorial Union Great Plains Room.
The one-day event features presentations, discussions and interactive sessions about current research in biomedical sciences.
Irving H. Zucker, professor of cardiovascular research and chair of cellular and integrative physiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, will discuss the role of cardiac sympathetic afferents in heart failure. He has more than 200 publications. His research has received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Mervin C. Yoder, Indiana University School of Medicine, will discuss circulating human blood cells that display vasculogenic activity. Yoder is an international expert in understanding the cellular and molecular events that permit emergence of hematopoietic and endothelial cells. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed and invited review articles.
Samir Mitragotri, University of California-Santa Barbara, will focus on targeted drug delivery systems during his talk, "Bio-inspired and Bio-mimetic Systems for Targeted Drug Delivery."
The symposium provides a platform for the students to showcase their research in the poster competition. Faculty will judge the posters and the three best researchers would be awarded cash prizes.
