Ross Collins, professor of communication, wrote the research article, “Myth as Propaganda in World War I: American Volunteers, Victor Chapman, and French Journalism,” published in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly.
The historical research looks at Americans who volunteered in France during World War I. Despite U.S. neutrality, young men from mostly elite families volunteered to fight for the Allies. The research looks at how these men were portrayed in the French press.
Collins has been an NDSU faculty member since 1993. He earned his bachelor's degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead, master's degree in cultural history from the University of Warwick, Britain, and his doctorate in journalism history from the University of Cambridge, Britain.
