Civil engineering professor, graduate student present on water resources

G. Padmanabhan, professor of civil engineering, and graduate student Navaratnam Leelaruban presented papers at the 8th International Perspective on Water Resources and the Environment conference held Jan. 4-6 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The conference covered a wide variety of topics of sustainable environmental and water resources management. The sessions were attended by delegates from several developing and developed countries. 

Padmanabhan presented the paper “Assessing Downstream Water Quality Impact of the Devils Lake Diversion under Changing Climate and Landuse,” which was co-written with graduate student Mengqi Xiong and Zhulu Lin, co-adviser of Xiong and assistant professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering.

Leelaruban presented “Impact of Droughts on Groundwater Sources,” which was co-written by Padmanabhan.

Padmanabhan also organized and moderated two sessions. He was involved in reviewing abstracts and papers for the conference.

The event was sponsored by the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of American society of Civil Engineers and the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
