Senior history major Luke Koran has won the 2016 undergraduate student paper competition of the Western Social Science Association. He presented the paper on April 16 at the association’s annual meeting in Reno, Nevada.
His winning paper, "A Journey from Frontiersman to Historian: The Letters of George Northrup," details the exploits of a scout and writer hailed as the "Kit Carson of the Northwest" and recounts the scout's death in the Battle of Killdeer Mountain.
The document is Koran's capstone, senior seminar paper for the major in history.
