The 26th annual Aldrich C. Bloomquist Lectureship is scheduled Tuesday, March 27, at 7 a.m. in Ballroom A and B at the DoubleTree by Hilton, West Fargo. Tom Halverson, CoBank president and CEO, is set to present “A Discussion About the Future of Cooperatives.”
The event is sponsored by the Quentin N. Burdick Center for Cooperatives, with funding from the Aldrich C. Bloomquist Endowment established by American Crystal Sugar Co. The lecture is free and breakfast will be provided. RSVP to Frayne Olson, frayne.olson@ndsu.edu by March 22.
Halverson heads CoBank, a $129 billion bank based in Denver and one of the largest private providers of credit to the U.S. rural economy. As CEO, Halverson is responsible for implementing the bank’s strategic and business direction as set by the board of directors. He previously served as CoBank’s chief banking officer, with responsibility for all lending operations.
Prior to joining CoBank in 2013, he worked more than 15 years with Goldman Sachs. He most recently was managing director and chief of staff for Goldman Sachs Bank USA, a $120 billion commercial bank subsidiary of the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Prior to that, he held a variety of executive positions at the firm, including head of credit risk management for Goldman Sachs in Asia and executive director of credit risk management and advisory in London. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Halverson was principal credit officer for country risk at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.
Halverson earned a British Marshall Scholarship and completed a doctorate in war studies at King’s College, University of London, and is a summa cum laude graduate of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The lectureship is named for Bloomquist, who was president and a longtime executive at American Crystal Sugar Co., a cooperative that produces 16 percent of the nation’s sugar. It generates approximately $1 billion in sugar sales annually.
