Students from the NDSU College of Health Professions will be admitted into the professional pharmacy and nursing programs during the annual White Coat Ceremonies on Saturday, Oct. 6. The ceremony for Bismarck nursing students is set for Friday, Sept. 14.
The School of Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony is set for Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. in NDSU’s Festival Concert Hall. The Fargo Nursing White Coat Ceremony is Saturday, Oct. 6, at 1:30 at Festival Concert Hall. The School of Nursing at Sanford Health White Coat Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m. in the Bavendick Stateroom at Bismarck State College.
The White Coat Ceremony welcomes students into the pharmacy and nursing professional programs. Each student will receive a white coat symbolizing his or her duty to patients as they enter the health profession.
Seventy-eight NDSU pharmacy students will take the oath of a pharmacist during the ceremony.
“The oath publicly professes their professional responsibility and commitment to serve the public, the profession and their future patients, while they uphold the highest standards of practice and professionalism,” said Charles Peterson, dean of the College of Health Professions.
A total of 108 NDSU nursing students will participate in the White Coat Ceremony.
“We ask students that every time they put on their white coats, to remember that it signifies to patients and the public their commitment to nursing and to the patients and families they serve,” said Carla Gross, NDSU associate dean of nursing.
Sixty-six NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health students in Bismarck will also go through the White Coat Ceremony.
“The white coat is a powerful symbol that represents the trust and respect that society places on the student as a professional nurse,” said Wendy Kopp, director and associate professor of practice NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health Bismarck. “The white coat represents the students' intent to be ethical and honorable in their behavior as a nursing student and eventually a professional nurse.”
The mission of the NDSU School of Pharmacy is to educate students and practitioners, advance research and scholarship, deliver quality patient care and provide service to the profession.
With sites in Bismarck and Fargo, the NDSU School of Nursing offers accredited programs to part- and full-time students, working professionals and students seeking online educational opportunities.
