NDSU distance runner Elliott Stone has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America first team in Division I men’s track and field and cross country for the third straight year, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced June 25.
Stone, who is from Bismarck, North Dakota, earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a 4.0 cumulative GPA and now has a 4.0 pursuing a master’s in business administration. He ranks fourth in NDSU history in both the indoor 3,000-meter and outdoor 5,000-meter. In cross country, Stone was an All-Summit League first team honoree twice during his career.
Stone also was named the 2018-19 Summit League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year across all sports. He is an eight-time Summit League Academic All-League honoree. In addition, he is a member of the NDSU engineering and computer science team that has competed at NASA’s Robotic Mining Competition.
Stone completed his senior season of indoor track in 2020 before the outdoor season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stone joins Greg Menard (football, 2015-16, 2018) and Tim Colwell (baseball, 2012-14) as the only Bison student-athletes to earn three first-team Academic All-America honors since NDSU’s transition to Division I.
