Adam P. Taylor, NDSU lecturer in ethics and philosophy, is under contract for “The Problem of God in Indian Philosophy,” which is part of the Cambridge University Press’ Elements in Philosophy series. Taylor was recruited by the philosophy of religion’s series editor for the work.
Taylor’s volume examines the philosophical theology of the Indian subcontinent. After presenting an overview of Indian theism, the book will examine the challenge posed to orthodox Indian theism by the materialist Cārvāka/Lokayata school, survey several versions of Indian theodicy and the responses by orthodox schools to these challenges, and draw some conclusions about how Western philosophers can find resources for rethinking the fundamental nature of reality.
The volume is slated for release in summer 2022.

Taylor joined the faculty of the NDSU Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies in 2013. Prior to that, he earned his master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Missouri Saint Louis, and his doctorate in philosophy at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. His research primarily focuses on metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of religion and Indian philosophy.
