Christi R. McGeorge, professor of human development and family science, has been recognized as a Legacy Scholar by the Family Therapy Section of the National Council on Family Relations.
The recognition came at an awards ceremony Nov. 17 at the Family Therapy Section meeting in Minneapolis. McGeorge participated in a mentoring and networking activity, as well as led a roundtable discussion titled “Developing a research agenda to advance social justice: challenges and opportunities.”
“I was deeply honored to be named an NCFR Family Therapy Section Legacy Scholar, as many of my academic mentors (and heroes) were previously named legacy scholars,” said McGeorge, who was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field of family therapy. “I am humbled to be a part of this distinguished group. The award ceremony was particularly meaningful as several NDSU alumni were in attendance, and I was introduced by a former graduate student, who is now a tenured associate professor.”
Other Legacy Scholars included Adrian Blow of Michigan State University, Lee Johnson of Brigham Young University, Rick Miller of Brigham Young University and Maria Bermudez of the University of Georgia.
McGeorge earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Arizona, master’s degree in human development and family studies from Colorado State University and doctorate in family social science at the University of Minnesota. She joined the NDSU faculty in 2003.
McGeorge has received many honors, including the College of Human Science and Education Exceptional Contributions to Research Award, Journal of Martial and Family Therapy Reviewer of the Year for 2020, Professional Achievement Award from the University of Arizona Council of Alumni and Friends of the John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences, National Council on Family Relations Kathleen Briggs Outstanding Mentor Award, College of Human Development and Education Hendrickson Faculty Development Award and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy 2012 Training Award.
