Intro to Engineering
The NDSU College of Engineering recently hosted Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. The event gives eighth grade girls a full day focused on the field of engineering.

Nearly 200 eighth grade girls visited NDSU and area engineering companies Tuesday, March 28 as part of Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, hosted by the NDSU College of Engineering, gives the girls a full day focused on the field of engineering. The event is designed to inspire them to consider an education and career within the STEM disciplines.

“This is our chance to show these girls how engineers impact our world,” said Angela Gross, outreach coordinator for the NDSU College of Engineering. “The goals of Introduce a Girl to Engineering day are to open that door to the world of engineering, define, through experience, what engineering looks like, and, ultimately, add engineering as a possible career path for themselves.”

The day started at NDSU where the students met women engineering students, faculty and professionals, worked on a hands-on team activity building paper rollercoasters and had a question and answer session with a panel of women role models in engineering.

Students then spent the afternoon visiting area engineering companies which included Bobcat, John Deere, Moore Engineering, SRF Consulting and Marvin Windows. The students and female engineers, who serve as mentors, worked together to solve problems, learn about engineering and have fun.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
