Fillmore Lab Research

The Fillmore Lab studies how energy metabolism contributes to metabolic diseases such as type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease, particularly in heart and skeletal muscle. To develop strategies to treat these diseases, the Fillmore Lab works to understand the regulation of metabolism and its role in disease.

Research Objectives

  1. Understand the mechanisms by which energy metabolism regulates insulin resistance
  2. Elucidate the mechanisms by which of fatty acid signaling regulates cardiac hypertrophy and function.
  3. Explore the mechanisms involved in the crosstalk between the heart and the metabolism of systemic tissues
