This travertine outcrop is the only known one of it's kind in the entire state of North Dakota!

 

This type of formation was actually made by spring water flowing through the ground. The key is that the water flowed through the Niobrara Formation making it rich in carbonates, and upon being exposed to the air the carbonate would then precipitate out of the water. Voilá, insta rock!
