2024 FM Diversion Conference

Monday, August 19th, 2024

The Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion Project, hosted by the ND Water Resources Research Institute, provides an active local learning environment for faculty and students conducting research related to water resources. Brought to you by the North Dakota Water Resources Research Institute (ND WRRI), the 2024 Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion Project Conference will bring together a multi-discipline audience of experts from agencies, industry, and academia to learn about the project's status, social impact, and unique engineering design.

Following the devastation of the 1997 and 2008 – 2011 floods in the Red River Valley, there has been strong motivation and justification for a permanent structure to protect the nearly 260,000 people in the Fargo-Moorhead Metro Area. With federal and state support, construction on the Fargo-Moorhead Area Diversion Project (fmdiversion.gov) began in 2022. The project will provide a permanent solution to protect our communities and is expected to be completed in 2027.
