Family and Consumer Sciences Education

Description

Candidates in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FACS) major are prepared to guide a variety of teaching and learning experiences for middle and high school students, in occupational or non-occupational programs, adult programs, or in Extension education. Hands-on experience is provided throughout the program to develop the teaching skills learned in classes. There are two pathways and plans of study for the undergraduate degree in FACS Education and Master's degree options to meet your needs.

Undergraduate Programs in Family and Consumer Sciences Education

FACS Major

FACS Major Program of Study

Courses from all areas of family and consumer sciences including individuals and families, nutrition and wellness, apparel, and consumer decision making are included in the program. 

  • Teacher Licensure is Pathway A and prepares candidates to teach at the middle and high school levels. North Dakota State University is designated by the State Board of Career and Technical Education as the North Dakota institution for preparing teachers of FACS education.
  • Training and Development is Pathway B and prepares candidates to work in a wide variety of educational settings outside of a school environment including in nutrition education, healthcare centers, Extension, youth education, and non-profit organizations.

FACS (Master's) Program of Study

You can earn a Master's degree in FACS Education at NDSU completely from a distance. 

  • Our traditional FACS Education M.S./M.Ed. plan of study is designed primarily for those current educators seeking personal and professional advancement. Coursework is delivered in synchronous and asynchronous formats year-round allowing you to earn your degree in a timely manner.
